There are so many fine old buildings in Guadalajara, that visiting them all takes a bit of time. It can also be a bit hard to get in. They all have guards at the doors, but provided you barge in like you belong, you’re usually fine. One such building is the town hall or Palacio Municipal. As with most of these buildings, the interior is the best.
Similar to the Governor’s palace, the town hall has a magnificent mural over the central stairwell. This mural is by Gabriel Flores and depicts the founding of Guadalajara. I think he must have been a bit grumpy about the city. The mural is all blood death and destruction, which is a bit odd for a public mural.
The building itself is very similar to others in town. It has a grand, brown stone edifice and a lovely internal courtyard. It’s right next to the cathedral, so pop in for a look.
