Penang - Dharmmikarama Burmese Temple

Just across the road from the Thai tongue twister temple named Wat Chayamangkararam is the Dharmmikarama Burmese temple. I think a logical extension would be to build a supercalafragalistic-expialadosish Merry Poppins temple. Maybe a temple dedicated to someone who sells sea shells by the sea shore perhaps?

Anyway, the temple is Burmese and it's right across the road from the Thai temple. It's not as grand, but it is still quite large. The highlight of this temple is a fat monk sitting in a luxurious comfy chair texting away on his mobile all day. Well, that was my experience anyway.

Next to the monk, is a large standing Buddha. This is in contrast to the sleeping Buddha across the road. I was surprised to learn a view years back, that each Buddha statue represents a different phase of Buddha's story. The hands and legs are placed very specifically to express a particular story. I always thought they were rather random, but they're not. Read more about it here.

The guide books all seem to big up the Thia temple across the road, but for me, the Burmese temple was nicer. The statues outside the main standing Buddha temple are quite fine - especially the large standing lions. There was also 2 rather comedic looking statues in one corner. I have no idea what they represent, other than looking like they're in a hurry.
