Mexico City – Museo de Arte Modern

The Modern Art Museum is located across the road from the Anthropology museum. Like that museum, this place is jammed full to the gills with amazing pieces of art and is also located in an amazing building.

The building is built as four circle, each with a lovely dome and curved ceiling. The way the are joined together is inspires, making the whole building fun to wander around, even if it was empty. But it’s not empty, it’s full of some seriously impressive art.

All the great Mexican artists are here – Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Siqueiros and Orozco. Well, Frida’s most famous work is usually here, but when I visited, it had been spirited away top her centenary exhibition.

Outside, there’s also a huge number of really cool sculptures. Each one built into the terrain and making it fun to wander about the large grounds. There’s also two temporary exhibit rooms, displaying the latest trends in Mexican art.

I have to say, that I was quite impressed by the collection in the museum. Not being much of a modern Mexican art aficionado, it was great to see that the art extended past the bushy eyebrows of Frida Kahlo.

As with the other museums in town, entrance is amazingly cheap, so there’s no reason not to pop in after going to the Anthropology museum.
